Encouraging women in motorcycling
This year The Maulies, The Litas Pittsburgh, and the women of Manifesto Moto brought International Female Ride Day to Three Rivers Harley-Davidson. Traditionally held on the first Saturday of May, inclement weather and unsafe riding conditions pushed the Pittsburgh ride to its August 12th rain date. That Saturday morning, about 50 riders headed out for an 88 mile group ride. Cruisers, dual-sports, touring, sport bikes, Can-Ams, scramblers and more all came together in celebration of women riding motorcycles!
In 2016, The Maulies hosted an IFRD run through the Laurel Highlands. In hopes of the event reaching more women in the Greater Pittsburgh area they invited The Litas Pittsburgh and the women from Manifesto Moto on board to help plan and co-host the 2017 event. Unlike most IFRD’s held across the world, Pittsburgh’s ride was coed inviting men to join in and show their support for women riders.
Several sponsors including Biltwell, Lowbrow Customs, and Dime City Cycles donated prizes to be raffled off after the ride as well as gift cards from locally owned Lunation Leathers, Lutz’s Leather, and more. Money collected from the raffle will be donated to the The Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. With the number of female riders on the rise locally and internationally, the ladies behind the Pittsburgh IFRD are looking forward to planning another successful event in 2018 in hopes of bringing even more women - new and seasoned - together to share their love and passion for riding!
