Gear heads unite in Millvale
The Steel City Mods & Rockers event takes place in Millvale, PA along Grant Avenue in early September. Roads from North Avenue to Hays Street are shut down, allowing us to party in the street. This year’s show on September 2 was the 8th annual occurrence but the first year that it was organized by the Ton-Up Pittsburgh and Steel City Rocker clubs. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Millvale Public Library.
Everyone is welcome, but this is not your typical Harley-Davidson fest. The event features classically styled motorcycles and scooters from the Mod and Rocker culture of 1950s and 60s London. You will see plenty of vintage Triumph, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Piaggio, and Vespas as well as some hard to find Matchless, BSA, and Moto Guzzi bikes. We also had a Pin Up contest where women dress in 50's pin-up style and are judged on their cultural knowledge and appearance. Jester's Court Tattoo provided a $200 gift certificate for our winner, and Yetter's Candies provided amazing baskets for the runner-ups.
Punk, Ska, Rock & Roll and Rockabilly music was spun all day with DJ Adam Sniff. Local Pittsburgh band, The Legendary Hucklebucks and national recording artists, The Living Deads, played on the Flyspace Productions Stage. Demo rides were given by Mosites Motorsports on Triumph's new Bonneville Bobber and Thruxton R models as well as the popular Ducati Scrambler.
People came in from Philadelphia, Chicago, Indianapolis, and as far as Toronto, Ontario to visit us this year. With planning already in process for next year, many sponsors have agreed to return with a few new surprises in the works. One of the plans is to include a motorcycle-centric art gallery, so please email me at michael.hyjurick@gmail.com if you're an artist creating anything you think should be part of next year’s show. Keep in touch through our website and social channels listed below, and we look forward to seeing you in 2018.
